OFFROAD.GUIDEBuilt your way. No haggling.
Four current vehicles parked in a curving row on the Carova 4x4 beach at dusk, headlights on: a white 2027 Chevrolet Silverado Trail Boss, a red Ram 1500 Rebel, a dark gray Jeep Gladiator and a bright blue Jeep Wrangler Willys, with three wild horses far down the beach and beach houses on the dunes.
A demo drive on the beach

From the sand to your driveway…

A great car buying experience starts with an awesome demo drive.

  • The drive: Half a day on the beach with the family in the Wrangler, Bronco, or off-road pickup or SUV you’ve been dreaming about.
  • No salesperson: Nobody rides along. Nobody calls unless you ask.
  • Your price: No haggling. The No-Haggle Price, in writing.
  • Yours, your way: Ordered from home, built the way you want, delivered to your door or a dealer near you.

$325 a vehicle · Five and a half hours behind the wheel

The day

Feel how it performs where the pavement ends

There is no pavement north of Corolla. Homes in Carova are reached over the sand, and the wild horses graze the dunes. Half a day here, with the people who’ll ride along every day, is long enough to know.

  • 01

    The ramp

The run from the end of North Carolina Highway 12, the road up the Outer Banks, onto the sand in Corolla.

  • 02

    Aired down

At 18–20 psi the tires spread out and float. You feel it the moment you hit the sand.

  • 03

    Soft sand

Deep, dry sand, where four-wheel drive earns its keep.

  • 04

    Packed sand by the water

A smoother ride on firm sand, best near low tide.

  • 05

    Ruts and soft spots

How it rides over tire ruts, and whether anyone in the back seat notices.

  • 06

    Room for a beach day

Load the chairs, the cooler and the fishing rods, and see how it all fits.

Your day

Five and a half hours, nothing rushed

Keys at the oceanfront Hilton Garden Inn in Kitty Hawk, then North Carolina Highway 12 north through Duck and Corolla, and sand all the way to the Virginia line.

  2. Highway 12 northAbout 22 miles through Duck and Corolla, roughly 45 minutes of real road driving.
  3. Air down in CorollaTires to 18–20 psi, a mile before the ramp.
  4. The Carova 4x4 beachAbout three hours on soft and packed sand, with the dunes, the surf and maybe the wild horses. Drivers stay 50 feet from the horses.
  5. Air up and head southBack down Highway 12 to the hotel.
  6. Keys back at the hotelStaff walk-around at drop-off.

Good to know

  • Your beach permit is taken care of.
  • The beach drives best near low tide.
  • Getting stuck is unlikely in an aired-down off-road 4x4, and every vehicle carries a tow rope, a shovel and an air pump. We’re a phone call away.
  • Stay 50 feet from the wild horses. It’s county law, and it keeps them wild.
  • Every driver must be 25 or older. Passengers ride along; bring car seats for little ones.
  • Driving two? Swap at the Virginia line, so you each drive both.

How it works

One experience, start to finish

  1. Step 1

    Request it in five minutes

Online, any month of the year. Pick one vehicle, or two if you bring a second driver. License, insurance and the agreement are all done online.

  2. Step 2

    Keys at the hotel

A short walk-around at the Hilton Garden Inn in Kitty Hawk, and you’re off.

  3. Step 3

    The beach

About three hours on the Carova sand, with nobody riding along.

  4. Step 4

    Your price, in writing

After your experience, our dealer for that brand emails you a numbered certificate with your No-Haggle Price. Take your time. When you’re ready, say yes.

  5. Step 5

Order yours, if you found the one

Call the one contact named on your certificate. That person places your factory order at the No-Haggle Price and handles the paperwork and financing. Navy Federal or PenFed member? Bring your pre-approval.

Not the one? You found out on the sand, not after you bought it.

Every step, in detail: from building yours online to delivery day.

Built to order

Order exactly what suits you, not what was on the lot

A dealer’s lot holds what the factory sent: the colors and packages that sell fastest. Here you order yours down to the color, the top, the axle, the tires and the options, in your name, and the dealer delivers to your door. Live farther away? A dealer near your home hands you the keys.

The program is built for buyers from up north: Virginia, Washington, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and Ohio. Drive on your beach week, and your new 4x4 comes home to you.

Buyer’s remorse comes from settling for the one that happened to be there.

If you would rather not wait

Say so when you order. If a matching build is already on its way to another dealer, the ordering store can trade for it and cut the wait by weeks.

You hear every change
Ordered, scheduled, built, shipped, on the truck. Each time the status changes you hear from us the same day, in plain words.
Skip the train, if you want
Where the manufacturer allows it, the ordering store can request a truck carrier instead of rail once your vehicle is released. The cost is shown to you before you decide.
The price is for your build
Your No-Haggle Price covers the exact build you order. Factory cash is whatever the manufacturer offers the day you order.
First drive on the sand
Within the ordering store’s own delivery area, you can take delivery here instead, air down and take your own up the beach for its first drive.

Why the price is better

You arrive as a buyer, not a browser. The price reflects it.

A dealer’s price carries the cost of selling: the ads, the salesperson’s afternoon, the hour at the desk, and the shoppers who leave to look at the other brand. You skip all of that. You come back from the beach knowing whether it’s the one, and the price reflects it.

Take the time. Drive it on the beach, then drive another. Pick every option and decide when you’re ready. You’ve done your homework, and you’ve earned the best price possible: no haggling, no salesperson. Order it exactly the way you want it. Don’t settle.

You never shop the dealer. We already did: one store per brand, which agreed to these terms in writing before a single driver was sent its way. A dealer that falls short comes off the program.

The Carolina Promise

An enjoyable, stress-free experience and one upfront best price, in writing. We don’t promise to be the cheapest. We promise the easiest, most enjoyable way to buy a vehicle: no haggling and no salesperson.

Take your time, order it your way, and get the best price possible.

Set before you book
Our dealer sets one price for program drivers on each trim of the lineup, in advance, as a condition of being on the program. No one from the dealership is at the beach, so the number cannot be worked up on you.
The same for everyone
Every program driver who books the same trim gets the same price. There is no better deal for whoever argues longest.
Nothing added at the desk
No add-ons, no market adjustment, no markup over the certificate, no haggling at delivery.
One contact
A named person at the dealer who handles program buyers and answers within one business day.
No clock
Take your time. Factory cash is whatever the manufacturer offers the day you order.
Nothing to join
No membership, no card, no credit union. The drive is what gets you the price.

Questions

Straight answers

Is there a salesperson?

No. Not in the seat, not at the hotel, not on the phone. Nobody rides along and nobody hurries you, and the dealer calls only if you ask. If you decide to buy, you call the one program contact named on your certificate; that person handles the paperwork, not a sales pitch.

Can we bring passengers?

Yes. Every vehicle seats at least five. Bring car seats for little ones.

Can we compare two?

Yes. Bring a second driver, 25 or older, and take two up the beach. Swap at the Virginia line, so you each drive both. Read how they compare first.

Never driven on sand?

That’s fine. The walk-around at pickup covers four-wheel drive and airing down, and the beach drives best near low tide. Our Outer Banks beach driving guide covers the rest.

What if I get stuck?

You’re unlikely to. You’re in the off-road version, with the tires aired down to 18–20 psi so they float on soft sand, and the walk-around at pickup shows you how to use the four-wheel drive. You’re far more likely to be the one pulling someone else out. Every vehicle carries recovery gear: a tow rope, a shovel and an air pump. And you’re not alone out there. We’re a phone call away the whole time.

What if it rains?

The experience goes ahead. Rain doesn’t slow anything down: wet sand packs firmer and drives better, and the wild horses don’t mind it either.

What if there’s no room to drive on the beach?

Strong wind can push the water up the beach and leave no room to drive. If that happens, it’s your choice: take your five and a half hours in the vehicle on the road that day, or move to another date.

What if I need to cancel?

We run only a few drives a day, so each date is held for you. Let us know at least 5 days before your date and we’ll move it to another date. After that, the date is missed, but you can still buy through us at a discount.

I live in another state. Is this for me?

Yes. It is built for you. Families come to the Outer Banks from all over, many of them from Virginia, Washington, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and Ohio. Drive it on your beach week, then your vehicle comes home to you: delivered to your door, or handed over by a dealer near your home, and titled and registered in your own state.

What about my trade-in?

Bring it along. We look it over while you are on the beach, and a written offer for it arrives with your price. If you buy, your current vehicle leaves on the same trip that brings the new one to your door, so you are never without a car. The offer holds until delivery as long as the mileage and condition match, and your loan payoff and title are handled at the handoff. Live in Virginia? Virginia charges its 4.15% sales tax on the full price of the new vehicle whether you trade or not, so selling yours this way costs you nothing in tax.

Do I have to live near the dealer?

No. Within the dealer’s own delivery area, it delivers to your door. Beyond that, your vehicle ships to a dealer near your home, which hands over the keys and handles your title and tags for a flat fee that your dealer arranges before the certificate is issued and prints on it. The sale is still with the dealer on your certificate, at the No-Haggle Price.

Do I have to take what’s on the lot?

No. The program is built around the factory order. You drive the off-road trim on the beach, then order the trim you want in the color and with the options you want, at the No-Haggle Price. If the ordering store happens to have your exact build in stock, you can take that instead.

How long does a factory order take?

Weeks to a few months, depending on the brand and the plant. It is ordered in your name, and you hear from us the same day every time the status changes. If you would rather not wait, say so when you order and the ordering store will trade for a matching build already on its way to another dealer, if there is one.

Can I buy the one I drove?

Ask us. The vehicles on the beach belong to our dealers, so it is the dealer’s call. When the dealer for that brand agrees, you can buy the one you drove instead of ordering one.

Do I have to buy?

No. If none of them is right, no hard feelings. You still had half a day on the beach.

Why would the dealer give program drivers a better price?

Because you’ve done your homework. Your license and insurance were checked before you arrived, and you decided on the sand. The dealer skips the ads, the salesperson’s afternoon and the shoppers who leave to look at the other brand, so it can sell for less and still come out ahead. The price is set before you book and is the same for every program driver.

Is this the cheapest price anywhere?

We don’t promise to be the cheapest. We promise one upfront best price for the exact build you chose, no haggling and no salesperson. Take it home, compare all you like, and say yes when you’re ready. You’ve done your homework, so you’ve earned the best price possible.

Who pays if something happens to the vehicle?

Your own full-coverage policy, the same as a rental, which is why every driver needs one. You will have it anyway the day you take delivery of a new vehicle. Policies written in North Carolina and Virginia cover driving on the beach; if yours is from another state, check with your insurer before you book. You can also buy a collision damage waiver at booking. It costs extra, because the drive goes off-road.

Which dealer do I buy from?

One of ours: the store for that brand that agreed to our terms before the first driver was sent its way. You’ll have the store’s name, your one contact there and the No-Haggle Price in writing before you decide anything. What our dealers agree to.

Do I have to haggle?

No. The dealer sets one price for program drivers before you ever book. There is nothing to negotiate.

When do I see the price?

After the experience. Our dealer for that brand emails you a numbered certificate with its out-the-door price. It isn’t in any ad or on this site: the drive is what gets it, the way a membership gets the Costco price.

What does out-the-door mean?

Everything you pay to drive it home: the vehicle, the dealer’s fees, and your state’s tax and tags. Nothing gets added at the desk.

What does no-haggle pricing mean?

One price for the vehicle, the same for every program driver, and nothing to negotiate. If you’ve bought through the Costco Auto Program or a credit union’s car buying service, it’s that kind of price, without the membership. How those programs work, and how this is different.

Is this the Costco Auto Program?

No. OffRoad.guide isn’t connected to Costco, USAA, AAA or any buying service, and there’s nothing to join.

When can I book?

Any time of year. Drives run all year, two a day at most, with shorter days in winter. Pick your date and vehicle below. First-season dates go in the order requests come in, and we email you to confirm yours.

What does it cost?

$325 for each vehicle you drive.

First-season dates · $325 a vehicle · All year

Get first pick. Dates go in order.

A good day. No obligation to buy.

You’re paying $325 for the experience, not committing to buy a vehicle. Spend the day driving, talk it over with the person you brought, and decide in your own time. Your written price arrives by email, so go home and take your time. If it isn’t right, simply hand back the keys.

What’s included

  • Five and a half hours in the off-road version of the vehicle you choose
  • Airing down to 18–20 psi, shown before you hit the sand
  • Recovery gear on board: tow rope, shovel and air pump
  • Room for the person who’ll ride in it with you

If it is the one: one upfront best price, in writing. Order it exactly the way you want it. Don’t settle.

Request your date

Bring your spouse or partner along: five and a half hours to talk it over, with no salesperson anywhere. You can both drive, as long as each of you is 25 or older, licensed and insured, and checked online before the day.

We email you to confirm your date, with the booking link for your $325 and the online license and insurance check. Nothing is charged until your date is confirmed. Already know the build you want? Send us your build. Questions? Email hello@offroad.guide; answers come back the same day.

Renting, not buying?

Beach 4x4 rents 4x4s for the Corolla and Carova beach, open all year, seven days a week.
